Start Simple with a Home Business

Setting up your own web-based home business can be pretty easy.  However, if you aren’t quite sure about your business plans, setting up a website of your own just might not be the best place to start.  Starting out simple just might be the best way to go.

One way to start out simple is with an Etsy store.  Etsy allows you to set up an area within their site through which you can sell handmade items.  Here you have the opportunity to tell a little bit about yourself (some have used this space as an opportunity to share their faith!).  You can also list your contact information, including blog, Twitter and Facebook links.  They make money by charging a small fee per item listed, and then take a percentage of sales.

Determining whether or not your product will sell is something that you will want to do before investing a great deal of time and money into a website of your own.  Just maintaining a site can be a full time job in itself!  Before jumping full force into a business, it’s a good idea to play around a little bit.  Figure out your audience.  Figure out appropriate prices.   Figure out if you will actually make money.  Figure out if you can really stand doing this long term.
