Kingdom Audio Reviews

Last year we purchased Kingdom’s Dawn, the first book in Chuck Black’s Kingdom series of six books. After reading and enjoying Kingdom’s Dawn, we decided to purchase the audio set of the first three books in the series: Kingdom’s Dawn, Kingdom’s Hope, and Kingdom’s Edge. Although I did enjoy the book form, I have enjoyed the audio version so much more. The works were very well done, with multiple character voices, music, and sound effects. The audio versions have allowed me to “experience” the stories much more than I felt I did when reading the first book.

My favorite aspect of the audio set is that it allows our family the opportunity to listen together while still being engaged in various activities. We’ve listened to them outside while we have been doing yard work (watch out for the extension cord). We’ve listened in the car. We’ve listened while I’ve been making dinner and the kids have been building with blocks. Obviously, we have listened a lot, and multiple times. This simply would not have happened with the book form!

Our boys are having so much fun trying to figure out how the series compares to the Bible, and I love that they are so excited by it. Although they are young (7 and 6), they are still catching a lot more than I would have expected. Our youngest is still not quite grasping the fact that this is an allegory, not the Bible itself. However, this does not seem to be causing us too many problems yet. (Keep in mind the books are recommended for ages 8 and up.) And while they cannot quite grasp some of the Biblical tie- ins yet, they are definitely catching on to the concepts of honor, respect, bravery, faith, and love which are so well depicted throughout the books.

Although this series would appear at first glance to be directed at boys, I would not hesitate to share it with girls. I am loving it, and I can’t wait to purchase more! They are definitely worth the investment!
